A New Favorite In My Closet

blouse: Cat Got Dressed (buy it here)        skirt: thrifted         tights: Kohl's         shoes: Restricted

When you sew you immediately get the "I CAN DO THAT!" disease. Usually I'll pick up a top at the store and say,"This isn't worth that much." or "I could easily make that, IF FABRIC DIDN'T COST SO MUCH!!"  So usually the clothes that I choose to spend my money on have unique designs, or are way to beautiful for me to re-make. Hi, I'm Sarah, and this peplum top is way to much of a work of art for me to ever try to replicate, seriously, no one is paying me to say this. GO. BUY. THIS. TOP. NOW. It is easily my new favorite piece in my closet. It has a timeless silhouette, gorgeous lace and is fully lined, and honestly I have no idea how she sells them for so cheap being that each is handmade and custom fit. As a seamstress and designer, I am just totally in awe and in love. And also, I love to support smaller designers that are in my shoes, karma you know!  Okay okay enough of my rampage, I just had to tell you what a steal and piece of art this top is, hhhmmmm hmmmmm and stepping off of my soapbox.....now!

Pin-Test: Best Ever Vegan Burger

You guys. I cannot even begin to describe just how tasty this burger is. I scoured the web for all of the self proclaimed best vegan burgers and this BY FAR was the winner. Somehow with all of the spices added it tastes savory and just like meat (there was a recipe that came in close second, this sweet potato burger is also pretty fantastic). The best part about making this was that it makes around 8 patties, so I just saved the mixture in the fridge and had ready to go burgers whenever I needed. Here's the original recipe, and below is the recipe adapted by me.

Burgers:
1 1/2 cups black beans, drained/canned
6 Tbsp fine bread crumbs
3/4 cup baked/mashed sweet potato
3 Tbsp chopped cilantro - including stems
1/3 cup diced white onion
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp chopped garlic
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp cider vinegar
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder
2 teaspoons cajun seasoning
Burger Covering
1 cup panko crumbs

Optional: Avocado slices, tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts, onion

Directions:

1. First up, prepare the burgers. Pulse all the ingredients in a food processor or blender. You can also mash well by hand - but a fp is a tad faster. Next, hand-form burger patties with the mixture and then roll them in panko crumbs and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet.

2. Bake your burgers at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool for a few minutes before assembling burgers. The last 5 minutes of cooking - add your burger buns to the oven to warm/toast them.

3. Assemble those burgers! I used a toasted bun, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, onion, avocado and of course the burger.

Curiosity and Corpses

vest: F21       shirt: Apricot Lane     necklace: DIY (tutorial here)    leggings: H&M   booots: thrifted   bracelet: F21    hat: H&M

I have....a few....or so quirks to my personality. Like when I try to go to sleep at night it helps make me sleepy when I rub my head all over Matts shoulders like a cat, or when I'm asked a question and I don't know the answer I just say, "Who knows these days?!" but one of the more stranger quirks is that I have a completely uncontrollable amount of curiosity and I feel the need to understand every weirdo ever born. Like I'm talking I study serial killers for fun because I'm so intrigued by how someone could be so insane!!! I  even have a complete season of serial killer dvd's that I whip out yearly to brush up on my serial killer knowledge. All of my friends know about my strange obsession with weirdo's, and those sweet sweet humans act like it's totally not weird at all, bless their little normal hearts!!! So the other day I'm talking to a friend and he says," Hey I saw this thing on the news the other day and totally thought you would love it! So they found this person dead in the water tank of a hotel....AND GET THIS!! The people staying at the hotel were drinking from the same water that the dead person was in for two week!" You guys, please tell me you have heard about this, I mean. WOAH.

There's no point to telling you guys this.

I just thought it was crazy that people were drinking and showering in dead person juices for a week and didn't notice anything.

My favorite hotel guest comment of all you ask? "Oh that’s why I have Mummy breath, thank God I thought I had cancer but I was just brushing with corpse juice.”

You're welcome.The end.

How To Make Your Husband Think You're Not A Slob

Blazer: Apricot Lane      blouse: Apricot Lane       pants: H&M        shoes: thrifted

I've done it. I've given into the love of grease and am only washing my hair twice a week. And HELLO why have I not done this before?? I'm the laziest and cheapest person on the planet and I hate getting ready in the morning so it's a win win for both my water bill and my lazy A. But there's just one person that I kind of need to convince that not washing my hair doesn't make me disgusting.

Sir Matt.

So these are my latest attempts. No success so far, as far as he's concerned I'm a very cute....but very greasy bum.

Attempt 1: But Matt I STILL take showers, I just don't wash my hair when I take them. Matt, " When was the last time you took a shower?" Me: "Ummmmm.....two days ago...." Sir Matt:"ummmm hmmmmmm."

Attempt 2: It will make my hair shinier and healthier!!! Matt "Do you know what makes you look really healthy? Clean hair."

Attempt 3: Now you don't have to give me head massages because I won't want you to have to touch my greasy hair! Sir Matt "In what world would you ever not want a head massage." Me: "You got me there."

Attempt 4: But I use dry shampoo which is pretty much the same thing as washing my hair! Sir Matt "No, you use dry shampoo that makes it look like you have a head full of gray hairs and flour all over it."

Attempt 5: But Indie doesn't wash her hair every day so why should I!?  Sir Matt: "Indie also smells peoples butts for fun. Do you really want to jump on that train?"

Guys I'm running out of ideas.....and dry shampoo. HELP. ME.

DIY Cross Stitch Art

I've been a little behind on making some Valentines Day decorations but thought that this fun leather heart would look cute all year round so hey, why not make it the day before Valentines Day right?! Here's what you'll need to make this.

1 wooden dowel (you can find them at Michaels in the cake decorating section)
10 1/2" X 15 1/2 " piece of pleather
white craft paint
string
ruler
chalk
glue gun

1. Cut out a piece of pleather that is 10 1/2" X 15 1/2"
2. Starting from the center draw with chalk 11, 1" thick horizontal lines
3. In the top three sections draw a V-pattern made by X's (make sure that the v pattern is centered)
4. Continue to paint the X pattern shown above and then let your cross stitch heart dry
5. Now grab your wooden dowel and tie one piece of string to the dowel that is connected to both ends.
6. Once the paint pattern is dry grab a wet cloth and wipe the chalk marks away
7. Now using your glue gun, glue the top of the pleather to the wooden dowel, also allowing the end of the string to be glued under the pleather as well.

You're done!

I felt a little strange going to church  in my studded leather jacket and combat boots. What is it about studs and leather that makes you feel like like a total bad-A, for me it was the little girl in front of me in church that couldn't stop peaking over the at me and then turned to her brother and said, "She's so shiny, LOOK!" That's right guys, totall bad-A, I'M SHINY!

So I'm going to school for fashion design (did you know this??) and I completely understand that people in fashion school are probably going to dress a little bit....different. I mean it's expected right. But the other day this girl walked into class with get this.....a foxes body on. I'm not talking like she was wearing fur...no no I'm talking taxidermy. Like her head was wrapped in a foxes head....and the tail was sticking out of her jeans....and her arms were in the foxes arms....and the fox had eyeballs. You guys. EYEBALLS!!!! Anyways, before class she started shaking the foxes tail in some poor boys face and I kind of puked in my mouth a little bit. I'm trying to stay open minded, I mean for heavens sake we're in fashion school but so help me if she's wearing a buffalo next week and I have to sit next to those beady black eyes staring at me for six hours!!!

On the positive side, one of you won some super sweet Sperrys!! The winner is Laura Nelson from Style She Wrote! Shoot me an email and I'll get you all set up with your prize!
