5 Things I've Heard Old People Say Lately

1. At church the president was telling us to go like the Church's facebook page so that we could get event updates and a little old lady raised her hand and said, "Yeah, but how can I get my computer to go from turning on to The Facebook?"

2. While watching Avatar my grandma said, "So did they dress all of these guys up in little blue suits or what?"

3. At church an older woman turned around and said, "Hey I don't know you! You're new here!" To which I replied, "Actually I've been in this ward for two years now."  "Oh are you one of those twins??" "Nope" "Well then I don't know who the hell you are then." and promptly turns around!!!! I love her.

4. In church when asked what helps us build faith a little old woman raises her hands and says, "Sometimes I forget where I am, or who people are, or where I leave stuff."

5. At work one of my favorite people in the world gave me probably the coolest confession I've ever heard, "One time I got so excited to eat purple licorice that I bit it so hard that my tooth fell out!!" and then she proceeded to show me her fake tooth.

Crazy Crazy Crazy

I haven't washed my hair in four days, I'm still smack dab in the middle of midterms and I keep waking up in cold sweats because my dog won't stop turning into a purple sheep in my dreams. You can guess how I'm feeling can't you?

"I know you can be overwhelmed and underwhelmed, but can you ever just be....whelmed??"Name that movie! Go!

I can't wait to show you guys my project, but it may just perhaps be in a fashion show in April so for now I have to keep it a secret, but believe me, you will be the first ones to see it...you know whenever you can see it. For now I'll just remain up to my eyeballs in fashion sketches and fabric samples. For any of those that want to send a helpless girl some girl scout cookies, now would be a pretty dang good time.

DIY Business Tags

I've always wanted to have a business card/tag but the idea of spending money whenever I ran out of cards always kept me from having them made. Of course the other option out there was to just make them myself but doing that sounded like something that I'm way to lazy to do and so of course I just went without a card. BUT GUYS. I found the easiest way ever to make business cards for so cheap and in about two minutes, no joke. 

Here's what you'll need to make your own.

1. A personalized self inking stamp (you'll only have to buy this one time so it's totally worth it, I got mine here)

2. A pack of cardstock

3. A hole punch

3. Scissors

4. String or twine

 

1. ^^ On a sheet of cardstock use your self inking stamp to fill the page.

 

2. ^^Cut out the tags

3. ^^ hole punch the tags and tie them with string.

 SO easy right, my initial cost was $30, but I'm only going to be paying that once, so in my mind it was well worth it. So um.....anyone want a business card so I can feel validated, or what??

To Sheep or Not to Sheep

I just remembered the dream I had last night.

I wanted Indie to look like a sheep, so I dyed her purple and then she turned into Lamb Chops.

I bet I had that dream because last night for about two hours I was googling where to buy miniature sheep. Okay okay let me explain. 

So this Indian of mine, she's an Aussie, born and bred to herd sheep. But the Indian has no sheep to herd, it's tragic really, so instead she herds people (aka me and every human in this world) and I just started thinking to myself about how great it would be if the Indian had a miniature sheep to herd so her life calling could be fulfilled!

Guys. Turns out they exist. Either that or I'm super gullible and totally about to fall for a scam.

So to sheep or not to sheep???!!! It's been googled so it must be true!

Over The Weekend

Okay so a few years ago I saw this youtube video and kind of fell in love with the pimp and the chick with the really huge mouth. Can I just get this off of my chest, if trouty mouth from Glee and this chick had a baby it would be PERFECTION. So anyways, then I hear that BOTH of these crazies are in a show called Studio C here in Provo, and so obviously I had to go to a) laugh really hard b) ask Mallory (aka trouty mouth chick) if she can fit her fist in her mouth and c) win a free t-shirt. You guys, it was so funny! You have to check this show out, especially since they do live filming here in Provo, definitely an awesome date night. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the show!

The Beauty of Learning

Last week I had midterms for my pattern design class and I had to design a dress and then make it and present it to my class. The night before as I was finishing up the dress I designed I was so proud of myself, I kept thinking, "I'm doing it! I'm desigining!" And then the next day as everyone presented their designs I kept sinking lower and lower in my chair knowing that my dress was NOTHING special compared to all of the other designs. I really started to get down on myself. My sister and I talked over some ice cream sundae midterm therapy later that day and as I was telling her how dumb I felt presenting my project compared to everyone else she stopped me mid sentence and told me,

Michelle: "Sarah, you realize this was the very first time you've ever designed anything right, a lot of these people have been doing this their whole lives. Did you work hard on your project?"

Me: "Well yeah."

Michelle: "Then be proud of what you did and stop comparing yourself, you just completed your first design! I mean you just learned how to sew a year and a half ago! Just keep pushing your limits and working hard!"

Oh the wisdom of my dear Me-Chelle. She was so right. I was so caught up in what everyone else was doing and comparing myself that I missed out on seeing the beauty in what I had accomplished for myself. Was it the best design in the class? Hells no. Was it perfectly executed? Hells no. But I'm so proud of my very first design, and that I'm doing hard things.

It can be so hard to learn new things, you feel vulnerable, and lacking ALL OF THE STINKING TIME. I can't tell you the amount of times that I call my teacher over to ask her some ridiculous question to which she looks at me like, "Have you ever even seen clothes before?!" But it's such a great lesson to learn, that when you work hard and throw yourself into your work, beautiful things can happen. I've learned that it's through the process of being vulnerable and mold-able that you learn who you really are.

Pin-Test: The Perfect Peanut Butter Bar

 

 

I had a few recipes picked out to find the best peanut butter bar recipe but to be honest, I made this first recipe, had a bite and then passed out from pure bliss and completely forgot about all of the other recipes because no peanut butter bar could ever beat this one. You guys, this with a glass of milk will take you back to the good 'ol days when your mom tied your shoes and your biggest worry was taking a nap. I'm telling you, THEY ARE PERFECT. Make them if you dare.

The Perfect Peanut Butter Bars

1 1/2 C Flour

1¼ tsp. Salt

½ tsp. Baking Soda

¾ C Butter

¾ C Sugar

¾ C Brown Sugar

1 ½ tsp. Vanilla

1 1/2 C Creamy Peanut Butter (split)

2 Eggs

1 ½ C Quick Oats

Frosting:

½ C Butter (1 stick)

3 ½ C Powdered Sugar

2 T Cocoa

¼ C Milk (I use whatever I have in the fridge)

1 tsp. Vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small mixing bowl, mix together flour, baking soda and salt. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, sugars, 3/4 C peanut butter, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. Gradually add dry ingredients, just until incorporated. Then, stir in the oats. Spread onto a greased 11 x 15 Jelly Roll Pan (cookie sheet). Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool for 10 minutes.

The frosting is a two step process. First, whip the remaining ¾ C Creamy Peanut Butter until it becomes lighter colored and fluffy. Carefully spread the whipped peanut butter over the pan cookie.

Then, add butter to a small sauce pan and melt the butter. Add the milk and cocoa. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Heat just until boiling. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Then, gradually add the powdered sugar. Stir until thickened. Pour over the peanut butter and gently spread over the cookie. Cool completely, and slice into bar cookies.

So my sis Michelle  moved in with Sir Matt and I a few weeks ago and it has been a serious par-tay. Really though, the fun just don't stop around these parts.  But the other day she came in to my room, sat on my bed and looked a little troubled. And then guys, she told me this story.

"So I was at the the store today and I was looking at this lotion, and a salesperson came up and started telling me all about how much they loved the lotion I was holding. And she held out her hand and was like, "See how soft my hands are!" And I wasn't really buying it so I asked, yeah but is there somewhere that you don't use the lotion that isn't as soft? And she looked at me and said, "Uh yeah my belly, wanna feel it?" And then lifted up her shirt. I was so completely shocked and I didn't know what to do, I mean really what was I supposed to do, so I stuck my hand out and awkwardly rubbed her belly."

You guys, I was crying, and laughing so hard that I might have just pee'd a little. I just had to tell you the story because if your having a bad Monday just think about Michelle rubbing a store clerks belly and it will turn that frown right upside down.The end.

DIY Constellation Globe

You'll Need:

1 over sized ornament (I found mine at the thrift store)

1 candle holder that fits the over sized ornament (I found mine at the thrift store)

1 white paint sharpie pen

1 pack of gold star scrapbook stickers

1 small can of chalkboard paint

1. Head to the thrift store and in the Christmas decor find an oversized Christmas ornament and a candle holder that will fit your ornament (you can also find both of these at Hobby Lobby and Michaels).Then paint the ornament with chalkboard paint.

2. With a white paint Sharpie draw in the constellations using this map and then draw in the names of the constellations.

3. Then use scrapbook star stickers (I found mine at Michaels) to place on the star locations on the constellations.

You're done! Easy peasy right?!

Tattoo's and Cheese

The other night my sis and Matt and I were hankerin' for some Mexican food....we had it bad. So bad that it was 10 at night and we were like, "We can totally still find one that's open!" and so we went to fulfill our need for cheesy goodness and lard filled beans. Finally we found one that was open 24 hours....which is really strange....now that I think of it. NEVERTHELESS!! We needed some Mexican food! So we went and ate until our heart was content. While I'm face down focused solely on the glory of my plate I noticed that Matt had been gone for quite a while. So I look around, and the boy is nowhere to be seen.But then out of the corner of my eye, in the very back of the restaurant I saw two shoes facing the candy machine, you know the ones that if you give them a quarter they'll give you two stale peanut M&M's, yeah those ones. So I meander over there as if we met by chance and I see that he is eyeballing some tattoos, he so entranced by the tattoo's that he doesn't even see me coming up to him. I say, "Hey whatcha lookin' at." To which he startles and then looks up at me, pointing to a tattoo with three saucy women in sombreros and bikinis and says, "I NEED IT SWEETIE!" Well of course I was game! So that tattoo we got, and Matt promptly gave himself a tramp stamp of three sombrero'd ladies and proudly named them "The Morales Girls" and proclaimed, "Now your sisters will always be with me!!". I've gotta give him credit, he keeps it real ya know, Real spicy, just like my chicken and cheese enchilada. The end.

Monday stinks. period. So I just want to turn your Monday right side up by starting it off with saving you some Moolah. Mkay? So a couple of months ago I saw this dress from Modcloth and I became OBSESSED. I mean REALLY. But here's the thing about Modcloth, they carry amazing stuff but I can rarely afford it, so usually I just stare at stuff that I want on the site for long periods of time typically around 2am in the morning and tears stream down my face as curse the day that online shopping was ever invented! This was the case for this dress, the most depressed I have ever felt, the hardest thing I have ever been through in my life, THE MOST TRAUMATIZING was seeing that dressed for $95 and knowing I could never justify buying it. So then, I did a bit of rummaging to see if I could find a similar dress and I ran into Eshatki's site, because they have some pretty rad vintage dresses themselves and I spotted this beauty that was pretty similar but I loved the pleats and fun pattern even more and hello is was $64 instead of $95! Things were already looking up right?! But guys, $64 wasn't enough for my cheapo ways. So I talked to the nice people and EShatki and was like, "Hook a sista UP!!!!" and they said okay. Revival Files: A Denim Dream

I had this over sized denim top crumpled in the bottom of my closet and could not for the life of me figure out how to wear it, so I figured that I could chop it up a bit and if I didn't like how it turned out then I could just well....leave it a crumpled mess on the bottom of my closet. I actually really like it! It's comfy and mimicks a peplem top (which we all know lately I can't get enough of). It was really simple to do too!

Here's how to do it:
1. I took the sleeves off and chopped the shirt in half an inch and a half below my waist.
2. I took the top half in to fit my bust and waist.
3. I gathered the bottom half until it now was the same size as the top half and then sewed it back onto the top half.
4. And then I replaced the sleeves!

Ta da!
.... and yes dance parties spontaneously break out around here.
