5 Baby Products You Don't Know About But Should

Before I get started with all of the recommendations I want to let you know right off the bat that I partnered with The Baby Cubby on this post and am so excited about it. As a blogger I get a lot of companies that reach out to me to promote their products, and almost always I turn them down. Because if they don't have something that I personally don't believe in and that I don't think you guys would enjoy, then it's not worth tarnishing my name and pissing you guys off in the process with super annoying companies right? Right. Or at least that's what I tell myself in this quest to be a blogger and stay true to readers and myself.
ANYWHO. I was so excited to work with The Baby Cubby because they select the most amazing baby products for their shop and have the best policies, which I feel like can be hard to find. They are like the Nordstrom of the baby world, let's just put it that way. They spend tons of time researching the best baby products so you can feel good about the shopping choices you are making, have sleek stylish choices that both you and your baby will enjoy and they price match any and everything even with Amazon. They are a retail unicorn, they got your back is what I'm trying to say. Anyways, let's get on with the items.
Gathre Mat| This was a discovery through The Baby Cubby and it is the most genius thing ever for messy toddlers and babies. It's basically a wipeable leather mat that you can use for any and everything. Let me just tell you that we've had it for a little over a month and used it every single day. We put it over the couch if Jocelyn wants to have a snack there, she uses it for Play Doh, tea parties, crafts, you name it. It's a bit of an investment but something that will last us through all of our kids. I swear by it.
Briar Bonnet| Another Baby Cubby discovery. I quickly realized with babies that from all of their head rubbing and moving that hats wouldn't stay on for longer than a few minutes, which can be really frustrating in the winter when you want them to keep warm. Well bonnets are still a thing guys, and they are amazing. It never goes anywhere and this particular brand makes wool ones to keep them warm and their designs are modern and fun. I'm obsessed.
Fisher Price Rock 'n Play| This was something I added to our baby gear stash the second time around and it is a game changer. It's inclined to help babies with reflux, has breathable mesh sides so they don't get too hot, it has an automatic rock feature and is the perfect place to let baby nap or just sit for a bit when you need your hands free and folds flat for easy storage. Confession time, I actually bought two and haven't regretted a second of it because we've used one as her bed so that stays in our room permanently and the other one stays downstairs and gets shuffled from room to room. I have no idea how I ever lived without this.
The Dandelion Shoppe Baby Bum Spray| I miraculously came upon this because my sister in law sent this my way and once again, game changer. I'd never used a bum spray before and really didn't see a need for it but decided to give it a try. You know those ridiculously nasty toddler poops that stick to their bums and take about thirty wipes and all your dignity to clean. Just a couple sprays of this on their bum and it breaks down the poop and makes the diaper change so much faster and pleasant. It's also scented so that helps the whole you know, stinky situation. My toddler actually asks for "a spray" anytime she poops now. Plus it's a small owned Etsy shop and I'm all about supporting small businesses.

Water Wipes| Newborn babies with diaper rashes are heart breaking right. Their skin is so brand new and soft and man I always felt so bad changing them and knowing they were in pain. This combined with my favorite diaper ointment and June has not had one single diaper rash. I swear by these at least for the first month of life while their skin adapts to the world.

What are some of the products you swear by?! I'm always on the look out for the best baby products!

Sweater Weather

cardigan       scarf (similar)        top        jeans(old)        boots (old)
It is kind of my favorite that when it's not summer, it's sweater weather here in Seattle. I've purchased ohhhhhh 4 cardigans just this week because I realized that you don't need a coat but it's a little nippy for just a shirt. What I'm trying to say is get ready for some serious cardigan fashion this year. This is one of my favorites that I picked up because it is so long and soft. It is the perfect color for layering and will go with just about every shirt I own. I can already tell that this is a new closet staple. Welcome to the fold sweater.

DIY Felt Balls

I always thought felt balls were really tricky to make but turns out after you mess up two or three and learn how to finess the felt they are pretty easy. Here's how you can make your own!

Before you start you'll need loose felt (you can find it at Michael's or really any craft store) a bowl of hot dish soap water (just a small squirt of dish soap will do) and a bowl of hot water.

1. Take a piece of felt about the length of your hand and thin and spread it out flat across your hand.
2. With the hand not holding the felt scoop a small amount (about the size of a quarter) of hot soapy water into the center of the felt ball.
3. Begin to roll the ball together until the water is no longer concentrated in the center. Continue to repeat this process of placing water in the center and rolling the ball until it starts to form together. Once the ball is formed together rinse it in the hot non soapy water and then place more soapy water in it and roll again. Repeat this process of rinsing and adding more soapy water and rolling until it forms into a tightly formed ball.

You're done!

This outfit is perfect for that in between fall stage where things aren't quite cold yet but you still want to look layered up without being hot. I can't get enough of the buffalo check you guys, the other day I saw a man that looked like he was in his 70's with an old worn out buffalo check jacket with a sheep skin collar and thought, I wonder where I could find that. This is the end of the line, when you start to take fashion tips from old men. Join me won't you, it's comfortable and it's at least a conversation starter with the old guys when you can say,"nice shirt, I have that one too!"

This Postpartum Body of Mine

  top    leggings    jacket

I realized really quickly that even though I worked ridiculously hard to stay fit during my pregnancy with June that the weight was going to come off very differently the second time around. I gained less weight than I did in my first pregnancy but somehow weigh more after my second pregnancy. It makes no sense dangit! This is motherhood you guys. Surrendering control of the things you just don't have control over and finding beauty in the things that you can't predict. Well this time around I'm determined to accept it and handle it with a little bit more self love. Last time after I had June I was so ashamed to blog any pictures of myself which is ridiculous. It's ridiculous! So even though right now I'm the biggest I've been postpartum I just want to rock it you know. I just want to be me unapologetically so that other woman out there know that there are women that don't go from the hospital bed to their bikinis. So hi! I'm here! I'll be here! And my shirt will probably have a spit up stain on it!

I heard something that really resonated with me. That during our pregnancy we spend all of this time talking to our bodies. We are grateful for them, we rub our growing belly, we talk to our babies and spend time in awe over what our body is doing and then bam, the second that baby is out we shut out thoughts about our bodies and are ashamed of it. It's so true, too true. So now I'm commited to waking up every morning and just saying a simple thank you.

Last go around I also didn't want to buy many bigger clothes because somehow in my twisted brain I thought it would give me more motivation if all of my clothes didn't fit me. Women are weird. Well guess what, it just made me feel like crap. So this time around I'm finding momiforms that I feel cozy but put together in.

This one has been on repeat so I thought I'd share it.

Guys it might as well be pajamas. These leggings feel like butter and suck all the things in. This tunic I actually found in the maternity section (ha ha no after I'm not pregnant I'm finally shopping in the maternity section!!) I just sized up so that it would be extra loose and long, I love that it covers my bum and isn't your typical button up! And the jacket is a nice worn in vintage feel that has some give. Thank the heavens it's fall so it's totally socially acceptable to be in leggings and soft things, because well, that is my forseeable future. Mom life yo.

Life Lately: 4th of July

It was the weirdest thing moving out here in February and then not having my family be a part of my every day life. We've always been so close, and I talk on the phone with my sisters almost every day so when I moved out here and would tell them what was new and places we were exploring I just wanted them to ACTUALLY see it and experience. I feel like I've fallen in love with Washington and dangit they had to too! So having almost everyone in my family out here this summer has been so fun. Joc is on a constant family high and man I do not want to be around when she comes down from that. But for now we're just enjoying each day we have with them....and silently praying they decide to move here one day.

These pictures are from the 4th of July...I know I'm the slowest. But right after this life got real crazy, which I promise I'll go more into this week, I just want to tell the story right. Anyways, so yes, 4th of July was a blast, we played hard and I talked with Joc all day about the fireworks and she was so excited and then by the end of the night when it was actually time for fireworks and she heard and saw them this look of terror completely covered her face and she grabbed my face with both hands and brought it close to mine and yelled, "DO YOU HEAR THAT SOUND???" I laughed hysterically for a good five minutes, but hey, it must be pretty terrifying to see them and she was just making sure here mama bear knew what was up.

Testing Out Clothing Subscription Boxes| Le Tote

Dress: Le Tote    Bracelet: Le Tote   Shoes: Kohls     Trench Vest: Nordstrom   Watch: Nordstrom BP

Okay so I'm trying out this subscription box called Le Tote that is specifically for people that have the  fashion attention span of a 3 year old. I've always been stuck in this category of somewhat knowing what my style is but wanting to try trends out to see if I like them but not wanting to commit to buying the pieces.

This is why Le Tote seemed so intriguing to me, you basically pay for a monthly subscription and you get sent a box of 5 items, once you wear them you ship them back and they send you a new box of clothes to try. You can do this as many times as you like within the month. Say you fall in love with a piece of clothing or jewelry, you can just keep it and your card will get charged for it when the box is returned. There's really no limit to how many pieces you can try within the month.

What tipped the scales for me was that they had a maternity box. Finding maternity clothes is hard. I can't tell you how many times I've purchased maternity clothing just because it fit and then having it sit in my closet. The idea of paying 20 something a month to have an endless amount of maternity clothes to test out seemed so nice.

So I've been trying it out. The dress, bracelet and necklace were in my first box along with two other jackets. I love this dress and the jewelry, for me the twist style dress was more of a trend so I decided to send it back but I did love having another jersey dress to add to my collection for the week. The biggest con for me was that the two other pieces in the box (jackets) didn't fit right, but no harm no foul because shipping is free both ways so it was really not a big deal. I wish I would have had a few more pieces to style for the week but next time I'll just be more careful about the sizes that I order. As far as convenience goes with returning they have a pre postaged bag ready to go in your box so it was just a matter of packing it up and putting it in the mail box.

I'm really enjoying it so far! I'll keep you updated as the monthly subscription progresses but I did want to give you a chance to try it for yourself if you want. Le Tote is so kindly giving anyone that uses the code WEARINGITONMYSLEEVES 20% off of you subscription. So give it a try and see what you think for yourself. You can do both maternity and non maternity boxes as well! Happy testing!

Why Bloggers Keep Blogging

shoes: Kohl's (here)   dress: Asos (similar here)   jacket: Nordstrom Rack Bebe (similar)   hat: Nordstrom Rack (similar)

I've been thinking a lot about why bloggers keep blogging...or I guess in modern times right now why all of us keep up with all of the Instagram/Twitter/Snapchat/Periscope blah blah ect ect hulabaloo along with our blogs. Because truly blogging used to be so simple. I used to sit down, write a post, take a picture, share it with anyone that wanted to read and that was it. And now it's turned into a monster. If you're not constantly promoting on all social media outlets you're not considered a valuable blogger or asset to anyone. If you're not making an income off of it, if millions of girls don't want your life, body, husband, house than you're not worth anything because you can't SELL anything for other companies. Somehow blogging stopped being blogging and it just became another advertising medium. And it's really sad because we all let it become that way. We wanted something in return for sharing with others, I guess we got a bit greedy. It's lost so much of its originality, creativity and fun.

I realized the reason that I keep blogging is because I feel this need to keep fighting all of these super bloggers that are making all of us buy into the fact that what they are doing is blogging "success". When it comes down to it I like to take photos, I really like to buy clothes, I like being creative and I like to share my thoughts and I like to think that my thoughts can connect us and create friendships. It's really that simple. To me I feel successful and I think anyone should feel successful blogging, not because they have millions of followers but because it feeds their soul and makes them happy.

I don't know lately I just can't read/follow a lot of the people that I used to because somewhere along the way we all got a little lost and caught up in the social media business of pushing products instead of sharing life and lifting each other up. And also I definitely stopped following you because I didn't win your stupid giveaway (insert cry laugh emoji here).

So I want to re-introduce myself. In case we've gotten a little off track along the way.

My name is Sarah. I'm married to a really goofy guy named Matt that has always hated blogging. In fact picture taking of any sort is his nemisis which is why in all of my photos I use tripods. Because if our marriage was going to make it than I better stop asking him to take ALL THE PHOTOS.

I have a little girl named Jocelyn who is 2 going on 16. She is all about the drama, but she's also the coolest and funniest human being ever.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant with our second girl. To be honest I'm terrified that I won't be able to love our second as much as Jocelyn, but I hear this is a common mom worry so I'm trying to keep my crap together. Being a mom is the best, but it can also be really really isolating and I just don't think any person wants to go through anything feeling alone so I want to connect with you just as much as you reading this is you're way of connecting with me.

I want to make you feel better after reading about/seeing my life.
I do like to wear clothes, but I swear I buy them. You can ask my husband, he's super pissed about it.
Every once in a while people give me clothes to wear in posts, but I'm never ever paid, because honestly not enough people read this blog for enough companies to actually pay me money (sob face emoji). If I'm sharing clothes or products with you it's because I really actually like them.

I like to think of this blog as my little tribe. We are small but fierce guys.

Besides all of the fashion/makeup/lifestyle stuff I'm just a mom who is trying to stay herself and not get lost in the title "mom". Don't get me wrong, I love being a mom but rarely does it permit me to pursue art, photography, get dressed every day, and so I come here to share that with you.

I write with every post because I think that everyone has something to say. So when I have something to say, I say it. And I really hope that you'll talk back to me, because I think we could be good friends. If you DO want to chat, please oh please come find me on Instagram, because that's where I get to take a peek into your life too and get to know you! Someday I'll get onto Snapchat but us grannies we don't take to new things easy, ya know what I'm sayin'.

I WANT to connect with you, I want for all of my posts whether it be blogging or social media to make you feel good about your life, or at least to give you a good laugh at mine.
Now let's hold hands and run off into the sunset together.

Good As New

dress: Thistle and Finn (here)

This weekend Matt and I went on a real life proper date. We got a babysitter, I changed out of my leggings (whoa I know) and Matt found a nice restaurant for us to go to ahead of time. Let's be honest, our dates usually consist of hey someone volunteered to babysit for a half hour let's run, like right now, 7-11 for an ice cream bar? That sounds amazing! You guys it's depressing. Anyways, back to the romance. So we ate at this amazing place that wasn't a total dive, walked along the beach at sunset, I mean we literally skipped rocks, who has time for that??? and guys we like remembered why we liked each other!

Going out made me realize that it's so freaking easy to get wrapped up in letting everything be about your children/work. This happened at the doctors today, I'm working on this project at work, she misbehaved and you should talk to her about this, why won't she eat dinner, I'll be working late tomorrow night, tell her she can't sass me back like that.

I don't know if it's a problem for all parents/married couples but for us Jocelyn and this babe on the way are our world and forgetting that for a night and making each other laugh until we peed just made me feel so at home and content. Like we've both had all that we needed I were just choosing not to see it because motherhood can be so all consuming for me and work can be all consuming for Matt.

Anyways, it was nice. I just wanted to remind you that whatever situation your in you should take some time for yourself and your loved one. Forget about whatever is always pressing on you and do something that will make you feel giggly. You'll feel good as new:)
