Water Color Memories

I always love going through old photos of Sir Matt and I. There's just something about reminiscing that makes me so grateful for what I have now. So as  my way of keeping all of our fun memories alive I decided to create a water color memory book of us. Hopefully someday it will be something that we can look at as a family and share all of our silly stories with our wee ones. I think I might have found a new hobby too. I mean I have no clue if I'm doing it right by any means, I kind of just started mixing junk together and plopping it on the paper (I think that's how these painting gigs go right?) but it's pretty dang fun! If it's alright with you guys, I'd love to post all of them on here in the future and tell you all the stories that go along with them? What do you think, sound good?

    I love this. You're great!
You should show the inspiration pic along with it, that would be fun.
I'd personally love too if you would do a give-a-way where a winner could win a personalized watercolor.

  12. What a great way to relive memories! And, might I say, that's some mighty fine paint-plopping you've done there. I'm impressed! I've always been paint-ploppingly challenged.

  17. This would be awesome, if you didn't totally steal someone's idea. http://www.etsy.com/listing/93553673/custom-portrait I mean it's ok to get ideas from others but at least credit them. I even noticed you pinned the inspirational picture, why not link to where you got it from? http://pinterest.com/pin/175851560420024222/

  18. Last time I checked painting in water colors wasn't copy righted. I'm sorry but this is absolutely outrageous. Nobody has ownership on painting portraits in watercolors....it's kind of been done for hundreds of years. I do my best to credit others when I know I'm using their idea but really.....stealing water color painting????

  19. I'd like to know how Anonymous doesn't know you pinned that picture after you did your painting? And why are they checking up on you by checking out your pins! Yikes.

All art and the inspiration for it has to come from somewhere and I would place bets that the Etsy shop listed is not the first shop to sell watercolour portraits. In fact, search for custom watercolour portraits on Etsy and a whole lot of similar styles come up - are they all stealing each other's ideas? Nope. There is a HUGE difference between 'stealing' someone's ideas and being inspired by someone - inspiration is encouraged within the art world. As a Fine Arts major, it's something that I've been taught from day one - look at other people's work to inspire your own ideas.

I'm pretty sure if I wanted to do a water colour memory book in the same style as Sarah's, she would not think I'm 'stealing her idea.' When did the world get so petty?
