Yesterday while my hair was doing it's crazy bun thing a girl came up to me and said,
"excuse me...do you do your hair yourself."
me: "ummmm....uhuh."
girl: "you shouldn't do it anymore..."
me: "huh."
girl: "you should have your husband do it for you."
......
girl smiles
me: "Is it a little too crazy for you?"
girl "......nooo?well does your husband like your hair?"
me: "sometimes. Sometimes he doesn't. But I do what I want."
girl: (awkward smile)"...oh....okay then"
awkwardly walks away.
What just happened there? Is that what I think it was? Did she diss my hair when she hadn't even met me before? You know what this gives me...incentive to make the bun even bigger today and hope that I see her again. I'm coming for ya crazy bun lady!
WHAT?! hahahaha...sounds like she was drunk or something. I had someone ask me if I braid my hair myself once. It wasn't a complicated braid either...just a little side braid that my 8 year old sister could do. Sometimes people are just hopelessly awkward (like me)
ReplyDeletehahaah that's too funny!
ReplyDeletei love the bun!

laaaaaaaaaaaame! I think you're hair rocks! Cute outfit, too
ReplyDeleteWHat??! Who in the world would do that?? Walk up to a perfect stranger and insult them?? Only someone jealous of what they saw. Seriously. You WEAR that bun bigger! Does she not get on the internet or watch television? Does she not know that the high bun is HOT right now?
ReplyDeleteBahahaha! Thats hilarious. . . And weird. Who does that? So I have an appointment with Twix today! I'll tell him you say hi!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness...what a little witch! Good for you for doing what you want...seriously!
ReplyDeleteHow weird and mean. That's probably like my biggest fear...lol. Yeah, you make that bun bigger and crazier today. Don't let the bun police rule the world!

Ummm pretty sure I've always been jealous of your hair! My friend's hair is all the way down to her hips and I'm so jealous of her bun-age!! Mine is not thick enough for it to be large and in charge. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteOMG! That is ridiculous! Even if you did look like a wackadoo (though I'm sure you didn't), it's your business. :)
ReplyDeleteNo matter how crazy my hair may look on any given day, I would look like a psych patient if my husband did my hair...
That's so weird!! Why would she say that?! It just makes it awkward for you and her haha =D Anyway, I love your bun, I wish my hair would look that good in a bun, I just look kind of odd haha!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your combination of yellow skirt and purple tights, so cute!

Was she trying to be helpful?! I'd smack her! Rude...
ReplyDeletei love that little skirt!!

when i walked into work last week with my hair in a bun, my coworker/assistant manager proceeded to analyze the bun.
ReplyDelete"you look like a [pause] cool [pause] librarian," he said.
"a cool librarian?" i replied
"yeah. with the glasses. and the purple. a cool librarian."
i glared at him a bit.
and all he had to say was, "well. you were the one who wore your hair in a bun. you should've expected this."
i smiled and said, "i woke up late. it was either a bun or 15 minutes late to work. aren't you glad i chose the bun?" i said.
"fair enough." he responded.
what is with hating on the buns, people?!
p.s. i work at an art museum. it's not like we're normal around here anyway...
I saw a similar comment on Twitter this morning, suggesting people stop wearing blogger buns because very few people look good in them. I promptly stopped following them (who needs that negativity in the morning) and threw my hair up. Bloggers unite for super high buns!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe she just came up to you and said that..The nerve!! I like it.
ReplyDeleteI love your new layout and the colors! Very cute..just like your bun! : )
What a weirdie. Can I just say that I wear a high bun probably 4-5 days a week. I am just super lazy about doing my hair, and I love the bun. Keep wearing it Sarah, these people are jealous cause they can't pull it off. Also, my mother-in-law was telling me that she is in Young Women's and for one of their activities they taught the girls how to do the high bun. I thought it was pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteA.) Super rude.
ReplyDeleteB.) Why on earth does she think your husband could do better? I mean, unless you're married to a stylist named Twix (and PRECIOUS few of us ARE), then our husbands would do MUCH worse than whatever hot mess we put on our heads in the morning.
People are so weird...what the heck was she going through her head? I think that she has been criticized her entire life or always felt uncomfortable and she takes it out on others that she envies...some people just mis-direct their anger and frustrations. I'm sorry you had to deal with that but you handled it wonderfully! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteWho says that? That conversation like didn't even have a conclusion! That girl it nuts I think. I love your bun! And also your whole new blog layout and stuff is adorable :)
ReplyDeletewow. I think you need to break out a little 'ruuu' or 'bye' . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuEu0t-PiNM (about a minute in for 'ruuuu') ;-)
ReplyDeletePshht, people are so rude sometimes! Your hair is a.) awesome b.) none of her business! Regardless, I love the colors and bow of the striped top! And that your tights match it!
ReplyDeleteI CANNOT believe you made that skirt! It's so cute!
ReplyDeleteThat is one crazy bun lady! Maybe she aims to please her hubby in every aspect. That's so silly
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and love your style! How do you find such incredible thrifted pieces? I'm a new follower :)
ReplyDeletelol! what a weirdo. I think it looks great!
ReplyDeleteWEIRD! Plus, who has a husband that wants to do their hair for them?! i'm pretty sure that if i asked harris to do my hair, not only would he be rightfully confused, but also bad at it.
ReplyDeletePS. you should do the sock bun, its HUGE and I love it!
Good lord! That's terrible! Thankful no one has ever done that to me. Ohhh but when they do... I'll be ready.
ReplyDeleteWow. You are a really tactful person. When I met you in person you were super classy and polished looking. Maybe someone has a jealousy issue?
ReplyDeleteDon't mind them, your hair looks cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd I like the unlikely color combo!

What on earth? Such a bizarre situation. You handled it really well, I might've started crying from stress. Love the new layout btw.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds pretty bizzaro, that she would imply that you should do your hair for your husband. But that's people for ya.
ReplyDeleteThat last comment was from me, not my husband. That would be as creepy as furbies.
ReplyDeleteHa! How rude. Your hair looks great!
ReplyDeleteHaha, Sarah I was totally there when this happened and overheard the whole conversation. So funny.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, that is too funny! i like the bun. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a weird girl! I wear my hair in ginormous buns all the time and I love it! And since when we're husbands who we should turn to if we need help with our hair?! Haha. That is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteUm... you have the cutest bun ever.
ReplyDeletelets all plan a crazy bun wearing hair day and everyone in the world can wear their hair in a bun except for her of course. we will block her from all facebook events indicated the when & how to of our buns. that'll show her.
ReplyDeleteI think your bun looks so nice! I wish I could do one like that :( and that's kind of rude of her isn't it haha...
ReplyDeleteLove the colour of the skirt!
She is crazy! I have always loved all your hair styles, in fact I have wished I could make my hair look half as cute as yours :)
ReplyDeletei love your buns! and your blouse tied underneath is such a lovely touch!

ReplyDeleteWhat a crazy girl! The nerve of some people, like their opinion is going to matter to you! Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteRachael
I like your bun! That girl doesn't know what she's talking about!
ReplyDeletei love a good crazy bun! and your skirt- i want it!!! love it! just found your blog and had to let you know i might have to steal that skirt!
ReplyDeleteoh man. i went to the library once and happened to be wearing a navy blouse, brown skirt, and purple tights. this woman walked right up to me and said in a very demeaning manor "you know, you really shouldn't wear those colors together. it doesn't look nice." then walked away. i felt like saying, "sorry. i probably should have checked with you before right!?!" haha.
ReplyDeleteyou should have pulled her hair.
